I’m excited to be taking part in Brott Opera, a new summer opera program in my new hometown of Hamilton. The program is part of the Brott Music Festival and will include a semi-staged production with orchestra of Rossini’s The Barber of Seville, in which I will be performing the role of Bartolo. I had a great time performing this role last year with Cowtown Opera in Calgary and I’m excited to explore the piece some more.

There will also be a concert of opera hits with orchestra and a public masterclass with the Met’s Joan Dornemann.

The Latest… http://jeremyludwig.com/the-latest/ Tue, 10 Feb 2015 18:28:36 +0000 http://jeremyludwig.com/?p=910 I have a couple of upcoming performances to announce.

First up, Julie and I will be giving a joint recital on March 1st as part of Central Presbyterian’s Lenten recital series, Sundays at Three. The repertoire includes Finzi’s Let Us Garlands Bring and Quilter’s Seven Elizabethan Lyrics. More info here: Sundays at Three Concert Announcement.

Next, I will be performing the part of Jesus in J.S. Bach’s St. John Passion, April 3 (Good Friday) also at Central Presbyterian. The performance will be with orchestra and the Central Presbyterian Choir, led by Paul Grimwood. Other soloists will be Beverly Bronté-Tinkew, Mari van Pelt, Bud Roach, and Tom Fleming.

Also in April, Julie and I will be performing some favourite operetta repertoire with the Cathedral Bluffs Symphony Orchestra as part of their annual fundraising concert on April 18th. The orchestra is conducted by Norman Reintamm. Concert details here: Cathedral Bluffs Symphony Orchestra – Concerts.

It’s concert season http://jeremyludwig.com/its-concert-season/ Sat, 22 Nov 2014 19:06:44 +0000 http://jeremyludwig.com/?p=901

I will be singing in a number of concerts in the next month and I look forward to collaborating with some great choirs, conductors and colleagues on some new repertoire and an old favourite.

It starts off with Messiah with the Bach Elgar Choir in Hamilton where I will be singing along side my wife, soprano Julie Ludwig.

Next up is a new one for me: J.S. Bach’s Cantata 147, Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben with the the Kingston Chamber choir. Fellow soloists are soprano Bethany Horst, counter-tenor Scott Belluz and tenor Christopher Mayell.

Finally, I’ll be reprising Messiah with the Musikay ensemble in Oakville. Musikay is an early music ensemble, specializing in a historically informed approach to performing Baroque music, so it should be an interesting contrast to the large choirs and modern orchestras we’re so used to hearing with Handel’s Messiah.

A new home in Hamilton http://jeremyludwig.com/a-new-home-in-hamilton/ http://jeremyludwig.com/a-new-home-in-hamilton/#comments Mon, 27 Oct 2014 17:19:16 +0000 http://jeremyludwig.com/?p=895 Hamilton Ontario

After a great few years in Toronto and a some time in Calgary last year, I’m excited to be making Hamilton home, together with my wife, soprano Julie Ludwig.

It’s an exciting time to be in this city that’s in the middle of re-inventing itself, changing its identity from gritty industrial town to an affordable, liveable city with a vibrant arts and culture scene. While I look forward to keeping in touch with my friends and colleagues in Toronto and to many more great performances there, I’m also excited to be a part of this new chapter of Hamilton’s history.

Barber of Cowtown http://jeremyludwig.com/barber-of-cowtown/ Fri, 30 May 2014 20:50:56 +0000 http://jeremyludwig.com/?p=891

I can’t quite believe we put this wild and crazy show together in such a short amount of time, but somehow we pulled it off. We had a great preview performance last night, with quite a few students and younger kids in attendance. One girl saw us cooling off outside at intermission and told us, “I’m not bored!”. I’ll take it!

Three more performances left at the Lantern Church in Inglewood. Go to cowtownoperacompany.com for more info.

Shiny and new http://jeremyludwig.com/shiny-and-new/ Fri, 14 Mar 2014 05:22:44 +0000 http://jeremyludwig.ludwigvoicestudio.com/?p=879 Welcome to my brand new website. I’ve done a lot of work making it work like a charm, and I’m very excited about how easy it is now to update and add new content.

Among other things, I’ve programmed a custom events plugin and widget that will allow me to input new events really easily and intuitively and have them populate to various places around the site. Hopefully this ease of use will encourage me to keep this space a little more up to date!
